About Derby Piano Academy
Most families and adult learners want the same thing: steady progress without pressure, a teacher who listens, and music that feels rewarding to play. After more than forty years teaching in Derby, that’s exactly how I work — calm lessons, clear steps, and lots of encouragement.
Who I am
Edward Rudak, piano teacher and founder of Derby Piano Academy. I’ve taught complete beginners, adult returners, young exam candidates and hobbyists seeking confidence at the keyboard. My approach is friendly, structured and practical — you’ll know what to practise and why.
- 40+ years’ teaching experience in Derby
- ABRSM pathway available when helpful (never compulsory)
- Enhanced DBS; parents welcome to sit in
- Lessons at your home across Derby & suburbs, or online via Zoom
Teaching philosophy: Traditional + Modern
Reading, technique and musicality taught clearly and step by step. Repertoire is personal — classical, film, pop or jazz — whatever keeps you engaged. For early beginners I often compose bespoke pieces so students experience wins quickly and build confidence from the first weeks.
Children
Short, focused activities, simple practice charts, and a pace that fits attention spans. Parents get guidance on how to help — no musical background required.
Adults
Respect for busy lives: compact practice plans (10–20 minutes), clear weekly goals, and repertoire you’ll genuinely enjoy learning.
Instruments & set-up (free advice)
Students do best with a piano or keyboard at home for daily practice. If you’re unsure what to buy, I’ll give free, impartial advice before you spend a penny — including good used options.
